Arbinet-thexchange Activates Los Angeles Exchange Delivery Point;
Members Add 1 Billion Minutes a Year of New Capacity
New York, NY, March 19, 2002 – Arbinet-thexchange, the full-service trading solution for buyers and sellers of voice minutes, has turned up its Exchange Delivery Point (EDP) in Los Angeles with Member connectivity commitments that can support an additional 1 billion minutes a year of trading volume.
Arbinet-thexchange has created the global spot market for wholesale voice. Members connected to an EDP in New York, London or now Los Angeles can trade, route and settle minutes with any of the 160 Members in the market without out-of-region investments in infrastructure or personnel.
“Arbinet-thexchange’s new West Coast EDP opens the market to expanded participation by telecommunications companies in Mexico and the Asia Pacific region,” explains Bill Haner, senior vice president, worldwide sales for Arbinet-thexchange. “It is also generating significant new liquidity from existing US based Members who can now trade regionally in LA without bringing their traffic to our New York EDP.”
Traffic between Arbinet-thexchange’s three EDPs is routed by software from a central location and allows trading in the spot minutes marketplace regardless of a member’s point of interconnection with the switching fabric. Arbinet-thexchange’s new West Coast EDP is located at 611 West 6th Street in Los Angeles with abundant fiber into the 1 Wilshire “meet-me room.”
“Inter-EDP trading lets a Member connect in any of the world’s three leading telecom transit cities which touch more than 80 percent of the world’s off-net traffic,” states Curt Hockemeier, Arbinet-thexchange president and CEO. “Our existing Members and new carriers connecting in Los Angeles are finding valuable new trading opportunities with other out-of-region Members.”
About Arbinet-thexchange
Two processes central to all telecom companies are selling access to their networks and routing off-net traffic to
destinations worldwide. Arbinet-thexchange has created the spot market and designed and built the world’s most
advanced system to automate anonymous minutes trading between telecom companies. The world’s leading
telecom carriers use this system to perform dynamic least cost routing via the spot market to reduce their cost of
service and expand revenues by reaching new markets without extensive network build out.
Thexchange’s system automates sales and purchase order execution, complex calling code matching, call routing
to specific breakout destinations and manages the quality of service of traded capacity. The system also handles
the credit risk management, billing and commercial settlement aspects of these transactions. Currently more
than 160 members are using thexchange to process calls at a four billion minute per year run rate. Arbinet-thexchange
also develops and distributes AXCESSCODESM international calling code breakouts, the standard
market reference tool. For more information, visit Arbinet-thexchange at www.thexchange.com.
